The Opened World
Rupture
The precise details of the events preceding and surrounding the massive rupture of a life cycle Eye near the end of the Remnant Great War remain somewhat obscured. What is known is that the war itself raged between those who called themselves the Zoarchs, who believed that life cycle magics ought to be pushed to the fullest to improve quality of life and create new forms, and those who believed that such rampant and unchecked use of elemental energies would lead to disaster. Disaster was indeed the ultimate result, though each side blamed the other. As the war drew to terrible climax, something or someone tore apart the portal between this world and the unfathomable energies of Life Cycle plane. The shockwave sunk a large portion of the continent, instantaneously killed and aged thousands, and sent the elemental balance into disarray. The stunned and scattered Remnant fled across the ocean to their current homelands, banning Zoarch practices and enforcing a highly controlled system of elemental magic use. The lands surrounding the great Rupture teemed with wild Life energies, becoming The Fade, while the lands to the north and south became the Kinsthet Desert and The Mire, respectively.
